Land Use & Design

A draft comprehensive plan for Bloomington is in development. Based on past public input and processes the time has come to reengage the community to refine topic areas (chapters) and their respective goals and policies. These will be used to help guide Bloomington towards 2040. The following are goals for Land Use & Design:

Goal 6.1 Urban space is a limited and valuable resource; therefore, development needs to be compact and the best use made of land to balance natural resources and community needs.

Goal 6.2 Plan for public spaces to enrich Bloomington’s sense of place and community.

Goal 6.3 Encourage development in Bloomington to provide public benefits and employment to neighboring cities and counties, while improving land uses, streets, infrastructure and the character of the city.

Attached is a visual aid with all the draft goals and policies for Land Use

  1. 10th Street Innovation/Entrepreneurship Corridor

I would like to see a reference to the opportunity related to branding the 10th Street Innovation/Entrepreneurship Corridor. This corridor contains innovation assets such as the Trades District, SoIC, Kelley, and the IU Tech Park, with several enhancements currently planned or underway along the corridor. This could be a focal point in Bloomington's economic development strategy for growing innovation-driven businesses and marketing Bloomington to the broader startup/innovation community.
